| Paul Relvas has been an active electric bassist throughout northern California since 1987. Paul has played with a variety of fine musicians in this area and plays a variety of styles and genres. Paul teaches beginners, intermediate and advanced players the basics as well as some cutting edge techniques such as piccolo bass, alternate tunings, the use of harmonics, muting, ghost notes, three finger techniques, slapping, tapping, and fretless bass. To his students he emphasizes the importance of tone production, memorizing and transposing tunes, grooving, walking, soloing, intonation, listening, composition, and improvisation. He will also help you find and develop “Your” sound through choosing the right gear that fits you and your style of play.

So much effort is wasted by not knowing which way to go, what gear to buy, what techniques will lead to regular gigs and optimized tone & feel. My objective is to convey real world experience in order to impart a training regimen that will empower the student. Watching the proverbial light flash in a students eye has provided me with the greatest satisfaction in teaching.
-Expert play with 35 years exp. 17 years teaching -Proficient in all styles including slap/taping -See myself as a groove based player rooted in developing chops and strong melodic sense -Primary influences include: Marcus Miller, Roscoe Beck, Michael Manring, Stu Hamm, Rocco Prestia -Teaching style: Ascertain students' current ability level, begin with fundamentals such as posture and holding, incorporate scales with song tastes to maximize interest and split efforts into two categories: Jock work and Brain work -Jock work: Technique, finger specific, slapping, tapping, chords, etc. -Brain work: scales into modes into walking into improvisation, etc.
